Animation & Explainers

Bringing to life the scenes we can’t see and can only imagine

A man sitting in front of a laptop computer
A group of people sitting on the ground in front of a painting
A person holding a pen and writing on a piece of paper

The limitless visualisation of invisible worlds

From motion graphic scientific explainers to illustrated beneficiary stories, animation is a medium that allows for the boundless imagination of worlds.

Whether the sensitive storytelling of hard-hitting subject matter, the simplification of complex concepts or the digestible visualisation of science and research, animation enhances audience understanding through visually compelling storytelling.

How we do it

1. Client Briefing

During an initial kick-off call, we uncover your ‘why’, your objectives and the key messages you want to communicate. We dig into the DNA of your organisation, who you are and who you help, and understand the key audiences you want to reach. This will also help us with our strategic recommendations for your animation.

2. Visual Script

Based on your key messaging, we’ll create a visual script. This is a document comprised of two columns: one for narration, and one for the proposed visuals that will accompany the words.

3. Style Frames

Alongside the visual script, we use your brand guidelines and creative visual references to develop 2-3 style frames - these are mock-ups for the illustration style. You can choose which creative style you like the most and let us know any alterations you might like to make.

4. Voiceover

Alongside the visual scripting stage we’ll go through the casting process for your voiceover narration. We'll provide a shortlist of agency-represented voice talent based on your specifications.  Once an artist is chosen we’ll work with artist to record the perfect voiceover for your animation in our studio.

5. Storyboard

Once the creative style is chosen and signed off, we go on to storyboard the full script. This means drawing each scene in the animation. This is when you can start to really picture the final product and imagine it coming to life!

6. Animatic

We create a video file which shows all the storyboard frames (scenes) timed to the voiceover. At this stage nothing moves (nothing is ‘animated’); the purpose is to determine pace and check that each scene doesn’t last too long or isn’t over too quickly.

7. Animation & Music

Once the storyboard has been signed off we’re onto the animation stage. This is the most time-consuming stage, which often means silence for a few weeks. We’ll also add any finishing touches like sound effects, background music and subtitles.
