The Cross-Border Conflict, Evidence, Policy and Trends (XCEPT) research programme commissioned Faltrego for a series of animated films to communicate their research around the drivers of violent and peaceful behaviour in conflict-affected borderlands.
It was important for the ‘human’ element of the research to be visually communicated; however given the nature of the research (e.g., armed conflict, abuse, mortality) it required highly sensitive depictions.
We chose a line-art medium for the greatest sensitivity. All background imagery and and character depictions were checked across stakeholders, to ensure trauma-informed, sensitive but accurate human portrayals. We worked closely with our sector specialist scriptwriter to turn dense academic language into compelling, public-facing communications.
The scripts were well-received by XCEPT and received high praise by partner organisations and competitor research organisations for clearly communicating complex subject matter.
