The Motability Foundation is a national disability charity which aims to make transport more accessible for disabled people. Following on from a refreshed visual identity and brand narrative, the charity was keen to commission a disability smart illustration bank of 10-12 images, to fill the gap in creativity that photography canβt achieve and expanding their visual storytelling toolkit.
Keen to represent disabled people in a sensitive and empowering way, we encouraged the charity to undertake our research and insights phase with a steering group of disabled people and with stakeholders. We ran these as accessible online focus groups. The insights informed three creative approaches, with the preferred approach being discerned and further developed through co-production workshops with disabled participants.
The final deliverables were the research report, 12 illustrations and illustration usage guidelines for stakeholders.
